Who we are

Prospect Hill, Waltham, MA - 1977

Prospect Hill, Waltham, MA - 1977

The idea was to turn Prospect Hill into a skiing destination.

Long before organizing a formal ski club, the founders of Prospectors were working together to make skiing more accessible for the people of Boston. They petitioned throughout the 1940’s, and when the town of Waltham permitted, our founders got to work. They established the towline. They cleared trees, shrubs and hauled away rocks. They even went so far as to source motorized tows for the chair lifts. All in all, the founders of Prospectors made it easy for Waltham to open the Prospect Hill ski slope.

In the winter of '48, our founders established the first Prospect Hill Ski Patrol. That’s when the Prospectors Ski Club began. You can’t ski Prospect Hill anymore, but you can still be a part of its legacy.

Dearborn Inn, 1947

Dearborn Inn, 1947

A home in the heart of ski country.

In the early '50s, the club found the Dearborn Inn, a lodge on Hurricane Mountain Road in Bartlett, New Hampshire—the heart of skiing in the North East. Its been our home away from home ever since.

Our membership has expanded over the years, but so has our lodge. We have family rooms, bunk rooms, and a kitchen large enough to prepare family meals. The kids love the playroom, the teens love the entertainment room, but our favorite is the legendary Fireplace Room, with a bar and a hearth almost large enough to stand in.

Community

Over the years, PSC has expanded by staying active in the skiing community. We're part of the Eastern Interclub Ski League. We've sponsored film premieres by John Jay and Warren Miller back. Ski Magazine once featured us in an article titled, "Club Life – Weekends in North Conway can be one big party – or an odd experiment in communal living." It seems everyone who visits Prospectors Ski Club can agree that we have something special going on.
